Our Casting Guiding Principles

CAST MEMBER RESPONSIBILITIES

COMMITMENT

You commit to the rehearsal schedule and sign a “commitment statement” at our WPP Mandatory Business Meeting in early December.

ATTENDANCE

You will attend all scheduled rehearsals for which you are called, prearranged conflicts notwithstanding. Final rehearsal schedule is made available in mid-December.

ANNUAL DUES

You agree to pay the annual Woodland Park Players membership dues.

TICKET SALES

You commit to selling at least 10 tickets (total) for the performances. 

CAST MEMBER ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Participation as a cast member in Woodland Park Players productions shall be available to all WPP dues-paying Members in good standing who:

    1. Are at least 18 yrs. old AND out of high school,

    2. And who:

  • a. Reside within the WPP defined geozone, which is the area:

  • South of N 80th St.

  • West of Aurora Ave N/SR-99

  • North of N 46th St.

  • East of 15th Ave NW; or

  • b. have a child/ward attending West Woodland Elementary School; or

  • c. are employed at West Woodland Elementary School; or

  • d. have previously participated in any prior WPP production; or

  • e. do not reside in the geozone and are invited by the Producer because they offer unique talents or diversity; and

  • f. pay annual dues of $90 (full and partial scholarships are available. Please email Linda Joss.)

  • g. sign our Code of Conduct

To preserve our neighborhood community, in any given show we aim to insure 75% of our cast will reside in the geozone, have or had a child/ward attending West Woodland or work at the school, or have participated in any prior WPP production through the spring of 2023.

A NOTE ABOUT CUTS

If more people audition for ensemble than the show requires, cuts will be made. Should cuts be necessary, the Director and Producer will work together to make casting decisions based on talent, fit, and balance of past, current and new members. Final casting decision for ensemble will be done by lottery if necessary.

Any eligible person who is cut from a production and who joins the crew, will be considered with higher priority the next time they audition.

SUPPORTING ROLES

A Supporting role will appear in approximately 4+ scenes, have several speaking parts and requires larger rehearsal commitment.

Eligibility Criteria 

  • Anyone is eligible to audition for a Supporting* role.

  • Note: The Director will be encouraged to cast people who fit the WPP Eligibility Criteria for Ensemble (as defined above) for Supporting roles, but ultimate casting decision is at the Director’s discretion.

 

 * NEW Sept 2019: If you have been a Supporting role, for two years in a row, you are ineligible from auditioning for a Supporting role for one year. 

LEAD ROLES

A Lead role appears in approximately 5+ scenes, has significant dialogue and requires the maximum of rehearsal commitment

 

Eligibility

  • Anyone is eligible to audition for a Lead role.*

  • Note: The Director will be encouraged to cast to cast people who fit the WPP Eligibility Criteria for Ensemble  (as defined above) for Lead Roles, but ultimate casting decision is at the Director’s discretion.

 

* NEW beginning September 2018: If you have been a lead role, for two years in a row, you are ineligible from auditioning for a Lead or a Supporting role for one year.
